How to Lose Stomach Fat
63
Anyone can lose their stomach fat. The fat in your stomach is like any other fat deposit in your body. With proper diet and exercise the fat can be burned off. Don't be fooled by those articles and ads that tell you there is a quick method to burn it off. There is no quick fix! It all depends on you and how dedicated you are to losing the weight.
How to burn the Fat Off Your Abs
Burning fat off your stomach is just like burning off weight anywhere else on your body. The key is proper exercise and diet. Read my article on How to Burn Calories to learn an effective method for losing weight.
The method described in the article can be applied to losing stomach fat. As stated above, the fat in your stomach is like any other fat deposit in your body. To recap on the focus of my previous article, the most efficient method for burning fat off your stomach is accomplished through cardiovascular, muscle strengthening exercises and dieting. Cardiovascular exercise burns the calories. Dieting keeps the weight off. It prevents you from putting the weight on. Muscle strengthening keeps the weight down. The more muscle you have the more calories you will burn throughout the day which keeps your weight down more effectively.
Doing a ton of crunches will burn the weight off your abs. This is a common misconception. Ever see those guys with powerful abs but still have big stomachs? That's because they don't do any cardio! Crunches are a muscular strengthening exercise. It will only help keep the weight down and will not burn the weight off effectively. While it is true that crunches can burn calories, it is not an effective method at all. A more practical approach is to do some form of cardiovascular activity and to have a healthy diet. This will effectively burn the fat off your stomach.
Do I need to diet?
A healthy diet is the key ingredient to any weight loss program! A proper diet will give your body the nutrients it needs to sustain a proper exercise routine and to help you lose weight. By cutting out those foods that are unhealthy you will begin to see improvement in your health. Unhealthy foods consist of needless junk that your body does not need. By cutting out snacking you will almost right away see improvement.
What type of Cardio should I do?
The best form of cardiovascular activity is the one you enjoy most! Remember that. Write it down if you need to. Cardiovascular activity is defined by any activity that increase your hart rate. Some examples include basketball, swimming, jump rope, running, hiking .... Do what you enjoy most. If you don't have a sport you enjoy, find one. Pick up a sport that appeals to you. Go online and research what you think you might have an interest in doing.
How often should you do cardio? That is a good question. Ideally you would like to do cardio 3-4 times a week for 30 min each day. If you are a beginner that may seem like an impossibility. Take it one step at a time. Start off by doing cardio 1-2 times a week for 15 min each day. Once you get the hang of it increase your session time and eventually the number of days.
What type of Ab routine Should I do?
The most effective ab routine for someone trying to burn fat is a routine high in reps. More reps less weight. This form of workout is called muscular endurance. The goal is to increase the number of subsequent repetitions. Some example exercises are: Crunch on Ball, Planks, Bicycle, Vertical Leg Crunch .... To see how to perform these exercises take a look at my article on the Top 8 Ab Exercises.

Great hub. Great information. Thank you for sharing it.
Another good hub on the subject of how to get rid of belly fat, that I won't follow. LOL! Great hub anyway.
Coming from someone in the know, this is solid information. I'm a fan!
Always had difficulty with this one (abs) as do others, but will take this hub into account and try to stick to the routine set. Nice hub, thanks a lot.
Shucks, I think you're right - and I'm still tempted to try those 'belly fat diets' because it sounds sooo easy. But thanks for a good reasonable expression of truth!
Cool tips. Thanks!
